William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is Houston’s original airport and the city’s primary hub for domestic and short-haul international flights. Located just seven miles south of downtown, HOU offers quick access to the city’s core and Gulf Coast region.

Best known as a major base for Southwest Airlines, Hobby serves more than 70 nonstop destinations across the U.S., Mexico, and Central America. The airport’s single terminal complex features five concourses (A through E) connected through a bright, walkable layout filled with local restaurants, live music, and art displays.

Following a recent international expansion and modernization, HOU now includes a state-of-the-art Federal Inspection Station, making it one of the few U.S. mid-sized airports with both domestic and international operations under one roof

Security screening at Hobby Airport is streamlined through the main TSA checkpoint in the central terminal area. Passengers can access all concourses after clearing security, which helps reduce connection time between gates.

• Checkpoint Hours: TSA opens daily around 3:30 a.m. and closes after the last departure, usually around 11:00 p.m.
• TSA PreCheck and CLEAR: Both services are available, with dedicated lanes during peak travel hours.
• Peak Times: 5:00–8:30 a.m. and 3:30–6:30 p.m. are the busiest periods — especially for Southwest departures.
